Last week we went to the Ice Queen Winter Strongwoman Competition and it was quite the experience! For Casey and Coach Kim, this was their first EVER strongman competition. They competed in the novice division and rocked it! This was my third strongman competition, but first all-female competition.
Women are just starting to become more comfortable in the sport of strongman, and this competition was a great gateway to feed more women into the sport. This year at NAS Strongman Nationals, there were about 50 light/middleweight women which, surprisingly, is a GREAT amount!
Through competitions like the Ice Queen, women will continue to flow into the sport and spark up the numbers all around. There is nothing better than being able to compete against your own sex and actually become friends! I tell people time and time again that strongman is the MOST supportive sport I have ever competed in. Strongman is the only venue (I’m aware of) where females will get along with each other, AND show unyielding support.
